Just one day post Valentine’s Day, Shermichael Singleton, top aide to Donald Trump’s HUD secretary nominee Ben Carson, was escorted by security from the department’s headquarters, and relieved of his position, with love. The whitelash came when an article trashing Donald Trump, written by Singleton back in Oct 2016 was uncovered. In the article Singleton, who is both Republican and African American wrote: “My party in particular has allowed itself to be taken over by someone who claims to be a Republican but doesn’t represent any of our values, principles or traditions.” Singleton also likened the rise of then candidate Trump to a “hostile takeover” of the Republican Party. When interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon last evening regarding his firing and whether or not the article reflects his current view of Trump, Singleton halfheartedly walked back his statements claiming to have obtained, but not specifically naming, new knowledge, that may have changed his perspective, and commended Trump’s visit to the National Museum of African American History & Culture as a step in the right direction. Singleton said he wasn’t bitter, and lauded Trump insider and newly named director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, Omarosa Manigault, as working with the current administration on “things ” potentially beneficial for HBCUs.
Manigault, one of Trump’s most prominent African-American supporters during the campaign, uttered the following statement regarding critics of Trump in an interview for a PBS documentary:
“It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”
Guess she wasn’t joking.
