HUD Senior Advisor Fired

Shermichael Singleton

Just one day post Valentine’s Day,  Shermichael Singleton, top aide to Donald Trump’s HUD secretary nominee Ben Carson,  was escorted by security from the department’s headquarters, and relieved of his position, with love. The whitelash came when an article trashing Donald Trump, written by Singleton back in Oct 2016 was uncovered. In the article Singleton, who is both Republican and African American wrote: “My party in particular has allowed itself to be taken over by someone who claims to be a Republican but doesn’t represent any of our values, principles or traditions.” Singleton also likened the rise of then candidate Trump to a “hostile takeover” of the Republican Party.  When interviewed by CNN’s Don Lemon last evening regarding his firing and whether or not the article reflects his current view of Trump, Singleton halfheartedly walked back his statements claiming to have obtained, but not specifically naming, new knowledge, that may have changed his perspective, and commended Trump’s visit to the National Museum of African American History & Culture as a step in the right direction.  Singleton said he wasn’t bitter, and lauded Trump insider and newly named director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison, Omarosa Manigault, as working with the current administration on “things ” potentially beneficial for HBCUs.

Manigault, one of Trump’s most prominent African-American supporters during the campaign, uttered the following statement regarding critics of  Trump in an interview for a PBS documentary:

“It is the ultimate revenge to become the most powerful man in the universe.”

Guess she wasn’t joking.

This Means War- GOP Debate

Marco Rubio declares war on Donald Trump

If you’re Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Thursday night’s Grand Old Party debate was a declaration of  war.  Nielson overnight ratings declare it the highest-rated debate since December, and is it any wonder?  Although current polls show Rubio light-years behind nominee front-runner  Donald Trump;  the spunky Rubio dropped bombs on the billionaire businessman all night long.  Rubio attacked Trump’s hiring practices, namely for choosing to employ immigrant labor over American citizens; and accused him of operating a pseudo business school, Trump University, which has several lawsuits pending.  Toastmaster Trump, who never met an insult he didn’t like, and who has gone relatively unchallenged on the campaign trail while simultaneously hurling smack by the pound at opponents, seemed at a loss, offering little defense amid Rubio’s strikes. The next GOP debate is scheduled for March 3,2016 in Detroit.  Pull up a chair folks, this is getting interesting.

Lupita Jones (L)/Donald Trump (R)

There’s a strong possibility that Mexico won’t be participating in the Miss Universe Pageant this year,  citing derogatory comments made by contest owner Donald Trump.  Lupita Jones, a former Miss Universe, and the organization responsible for choosing Mexico’s candidate are considering withdrawing from the competition.  In a statement to Radio Channel, Jones stated, “…in this moment, I feel that our representative’s integrity and dignity is at risk.”  Jones’ statement references remarks made by Trump in a speech last week in New York where he announced his bid for the 2016 United States presidency.  In his speech, Trump declared of Mexico: “they are not not our friend, believe me,”  and further stated, “when Mexico sends it’s people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

Twenty four years ago, Jones became the first Mexican contestant to win Miss Universe, and indicated feeling disrespect as a woman and a citizen upon hearing Trump’s remarks. Current Miss Mexico Wendy Esparza has not responded on the matter.
